Targs are important to Klingon life.

Targs, being hardy creatures, thrive in all the various environments Klingons have introduced them too. While Qo’noS is their primary natural habitat, the Klingon practice of taking targs along for hunting, rituals, or food have led to wild populations developing on other Klingon-controlled worlds. As it turns out, almost any planet with a relatively temperate or rugged environment is suitable for targs. Even to the point where they could be considered invasive.
